Specialty Programming

YBGR strives to offer youth a variety of opportunities to join healthy activities offered across the campus.

Canyon Creek Mustang 4H Club

4-H is one of the most recognized youth programs in the nation, which has had documented success in teaching life skills using the experiential learning method. The goal of 4H is to instill leadership, self confidence, stewardship and many other life skills in youth. Yellowstone's 4H Club is called the Canyon Creek Mustang 4H Club and was established in 2010. 4H membership is transferable which allows youth leaving the Ranch to get involved in their local chapter back home.

Research has shown that participation in animal science projects has a positive effect on the development of skills such as responsibility, decision making and leadership. The 4H Barn allows Yellowstone's youth the opportunity to gain these skills and experience agriculture hands on as they bottle feed lambs in the spring, work with the Ranch horses through 4H and the Transitional Skills' Stable Program, and work with steers as part of the 4H program.

At this time our club offers four different project areas: Horse, Beef, Dog, and Sewing; with the hope of adding other project areas in the future such as photography, cooking and leather craft. We have an elected officer team who runs our monthly club meetings and our members are active in community service and fundraising projects.

Our club is very new but many of the kids on campus are excited about 4H. They feel a sense of importance and pride to be involved in a group where they get to make decisions and learn about something that interests them. We have many plans for the future of this club and what it can add to the lives of our youth.

Stable Program

stable programThe Stable Program was created to teach life skills to youth through caring for and training young horses. Here, youth are included in all facets of the horse raising process including record keeping, marketing for sale, breeding, nutrition, routine care, and all stages of training from imprinting and halter breaking to riding. These horses are also used as 4H projects by the Ranch 4H members. Through this process the monetary value of the horses increases and upon completion of the program these horses will be offered for sale to the surrounding community and at high quality auctions.
