Life at the Ranch

The lodge and school environments at YBGR encourage good daily habits and provide structure and support. Here youth thrive and grow personally as they learn to manage their time, be accountable and responsible community members, respecting those around them.

life at the ranchYouth are housed in same-sex homes, called lodges, and share basic housekeeping responsibilities. Youth must keep their personal areas clean at all times. Each youth is given an assignment to assist in the major cleaning of his/her lodge on a weekly basis.

YBGR believes full schedules that consist of healthy activities provide opportunity for youth to build constructive relationships with adult staff and one another. It also provides many opportunities to develop social skills such as team work while learning to accepting feedback. It is this structured and predictable environment that we’ve found inappropriate behavior to be less frequent and intense.

All staff involved with youth, including lodge and school staff, are well-trained in behavior management and intervention techniques. YBGR staff are encouraged to help youth in their care to develop positive, significant relationships with those around them.

Youth are required to exhibit polite and appropriate interactions with staff, keep a neat, groomed personal appearance and follow the YBGR dress code.

Your child will eat most meals in the dining hall with other youth living in their lodge. A dietician supervises menu planning and ensures that nutritionally balanced meals are served. Some lodges eat meals in their lodge for therapeutic reasons. When youth require a specialized diet, an individualized menu is developed and supervised by our dietician and medical staff.
