Therapeutic Family Living
Therapeutic Family Living is defined as an in-home service that builds on existing strengths to preserve the family unit. Each family is assigned a Treatment Manager who facilitates at least weekly home visits customized to individual needs with the goal of promoting better family functioning.

- A: Healthy Montana Kids Plus (formerly known as Medicaid) and Healthy Montana Kids Extended pays 100% of the cost of this service. HMK Plus does not have an identified time frame, while HMK Extended is limited to 30 days in a year. Private insurance does not typically pay for TFL, however families can pay out of pocket.
- Q: What will the treatment manager do for us?
- A: Home visits are individualized interventions that teach and implement new ideas. Treatment Managers take a respectful, humble approach to honor the family’s needs, desires, and dreams. They build success and overcome challenges by identifying and utilizing the family’s strengths. They often work on communication, boundaries, healthy expressions of emotions, and parenting skills during home visits. Weekly assignments or family goals are assigned and discussed each week.
- Q: How long does TFL last?
- A: TFL typically lasts 9-12 months, depending on progress toward goals.
